Vortex, JillyBean & Chernobyl
3 TGA strains... cured pics and final review

So it's been a few weeks since harvest and I snapped some pics of the final product. These buds are actually from the second batch of my TGA grow (the clones of the originalplants from seed). I started with 9 seeds: 3 Vortex, 2 Jillybean, 2 Chernobyl, and 2 Qleaner. All were female except the two Qleaner.
3 TGA strains... cured pics and final review
So it's been a few weeks since harvest and I snapped some pics of the final product. These buds are actually from the second batch of my TGA grow (the clones of the original plants from seed). I started with 9 seeds: 3 Vortex, 2 Jillybean, 2 Chernobyl, and 2 Qleaner. All were female except the two Qleaner. I grew these 7 females out and was very happy to find that 6 of the 7 were keeper quality. One Chernobyl pheno was discarded because it lacked the real pop in the flavor and potency department that all the other plants had. So that leaves 6 distinct phenos from 3 different strains in this second run.
Jillybean #1: Low yielder but resin production is extreme. Leaves become deep purple in latter half of flower. Smell/taste is earthy with a citrussy hint like oranges. High is very powerful.

Jillybean #2: Significantly better yield than the #1 pheno. Leaves also got the same deep purple hues. Subcool (breeder at TGA) says this strain has a "dreamscicle" pheno which sounded odd until I grew this plant. It has the same orange taste of the first pheno but rather than being earthy it is sweet and creamy like custard. After curing the taste is really out of this world. Very dank and strong but tastes like.. well, dreamscicles.

Chernobyl #1: Yield and growth structure was similar to Jillybean #2, what I would call medium. Taste is very different though. Very sour and zesty like grapefruit. Mostly green in color with very slight tinting of the uppermost leaves. Resin production was also exceptional here and the high is strong and I imagine would be good for pain alleviation (although this is thankfully not my motivation for smoking). Just an all around buzzing, numbing high that is very relaxing for me.

Vortex #1: Very tall and stretchy plant although the budsites do pack on decent weight at the end. Smell/taste is mildly hashy, earthy, and a bit peppery. High is very strong. Not relaxing like Chernobyl but more of a high energy racing type of deal. Some people cannot handle it so use caution.

Vortex #2: If the first pheno needs caution this one needs a warning label complete with skull and crossbones. Extreme potency and flavor plus a short flowering time make this one of my favorites. All other plants in this review take 9-10 weeks to finish. This Vortex #2 is ready in 8. It also stretches the least of this group. Smells like dog shit during flower but after drying it becomes more cheesey and peppery. When smoked it tastes like pure hash. Made my stepbrother drop out of the session and "need to go lay down" LOL. Not for the faint of heart.

Vortex #3: I was also very pleased with this one. It has the same powerful high of the other two Vortex phenos but yield is much better. This is a high-yielding strain by any standards, especially for TGA which is known to be low in that department. The same peppery hash taste is present here but also a strong minty fresh smell and taste that is fantastic. Kind of stretchy like the #1 pheno but the entire frame becomes covered with towering calyxes so it's all good.

I think it also helps to have a context in these reviews. I am saying the highs are strong and the flavors are great but what am I comparing to? In the past I have tried the following strains: (GreenHouse: Trainwreck, Cheese, Lemon Skunk, White Rhino, Great White Shark), (Cannacopia: BC Roadkill, Bubba's Kush), (Nirvana: Jock Horror, Bubblelicious, Super Skunk), (Sativa Seedbank: White Lady). Actually I hope everyone out there knows Nirvana and Sativa Seedbank are the same company. Sham City, I think is their address.
Anyways, out of growing all those strains before trying TGA... let's see, 11 in all... I had selected 4 keepers. They were both the Cannacopia strains and Cheese and Lemon Skunk from GreenHouse. So the fact that I find 6 females of that keeper-caliber from only 9 seeds is amazing. I have a few more beans left and can't wait to see what I find. Currently I got 4 Qleaner seedlings in veg just to be sure I get a female this time. Overall TGA/subcool gets big thumbs up from this grower.
